Department of Physics organizes and hosts a Computational Material Science Week

A Computational Material Science Week’ was organized and hosted by the Department of Physics, Egerton University from Monday 18th March to Friday 22nd March 2019. The event involved installation of a computational cluster/ server donated by Prof Ryo Maezono of Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST), Japan. Prof Ryo was represented by Dr Kenta Hongo and Mr Keishu Uchimura who installed the server, conducted trainings and offered tutorials and seminars to staff and students in Physics and other Faculty of Science departments. The International Centre for Theoretical Physics was represented by Prof A. O. Omololu, the Interim Director of ICTP East African Institute of Fundamental Research (EAIFR), University of Rwanda who also gave seminars. Kenya Education Network (KENET) was represented by Prof G. O. Amolo, Chair of the Department of Physics and Space Science, Technical University of Kenya.

The visitor paid courtesy calls to the DVC Research and Extension and the DVC, Academic Affairs who appreciated the donation, expressed their desire to strengthen the collaboration and wished the team a productive and pleasant stay at Egerton University. The donation was officially received by Prof Julius Kipkemboi, the Dean, Faculty of Science on behalf of the university. The donation greatly boosted the Department of Physics dream of establishing a computational material science research laboratory of international repute. of international repute.

Egerton Dominates Career Fair in Makueni County

The University paricipated in a higly charged career fair in Makueni County held on 15th and 16th March 2019. The event hosted by Makueni Boys High School was massively attended by schools from the county. Some of the schools included Makueni Boys, Kilungu Boys, Kitondo Boys, Kikumini School, Makindu Boys, Muusini Secondary, Ngunini Secondary, Nduluku Boys, Ndatani Secondary, St. Jude Girls, AIC Mavindini Girls, Mbooni AIC Girls, St. Martins Kathus, Kilili Secondary, Ngai Secondary, St. Raphael Ngai Secondary, Kyangala School mong others. .Exhibotors were mostly private universoties and colleges with Egerton University as the only Public University which gave us a comperative advantage over the rest. The acting Registrar Academic Affairs, Prof. Mwanarusi Saidi gave a talk on  academic programmes and opportunities available at Egerton University and adviced the form four students on hard work and dedication for a brighter future. The students were also given an aerial virtual tour of the university, university documentary to enhance their interest for the university.

The Division on top of career awareness

Egerton University through the office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs has often sent staff and students to promote academic programmes and opportunities available at Egerton University and advice the prospective students on the best subject match for respective programmes. One such activity was the 2nd Bunyore Girls Career Expo organized by Luleti Consultants. The 2-day event hosted by Musingu and Chavakali High Schools brought together secondary schools across western region. The acting Registrar Academic Affairs, Prof. Mwanarusi Saidi gave presentations as admission staff provided career guidance. The students were given an aerial virtual tour of the university to enhance their interest in enrolling for our academic programmes and experience the serane environment at Egerton University.

Egerton University gets new Chancellor

The Presidents appoints Mr. Narendra Raval, head of Devki Group, as the new Chancellor of Egerton University for five years.

Egerton University promotes academic outreach

Prof. Rose Odhiambo, Director University Welfare Services, was invited to give keynote speech at the Annual Education Day in Migori County on 6th March, 2019. The event organized by Seventh Day Adventist Ranen Conference brought together all SDA schools in Migori County under the jurisdiction of the conference. Prof. Odhiambo in her speech highlighted various academic programmes and opportunities offered at Egerton University. All academic and non-academic staff are encouraged to inform the Division of such invites.
