Egerton University marks the 19th Annual Gender Awareness Day

Themed ‘Think equal, build smart and innovate for change’, this year’s gender awareness day was hosted by Egerton University’s Nakuru Town Campus College at The Lions Garden on 9th October, 2019 and was graced by students and staff who have passion for gender equity and equality matters. The event comes at a time when the world is revolutionizing in matters surrounding gender roles and gender balance. This year’s event organized by The Institute of Gender and Women Development in collaboration with The Dean of Student’s office saw participation of student groups, clubs, university staff, the general public, pressure groups and stakeholders among others in different capacities. The several entities came together to mark strides made in both gender equity and equality.

With an increase in turnout, there is positive feedback that the student, staff and general population are appreciating the need for sustainable gender gains in society. Among the issues highlighted were the necessity of empowering a mindset of gender equity, being innovative in the same strength and being creative in handling gender-based matters.
