Egerton University Students’ Leader among the Best in the Country

David Omondi, the outgoing Secretary General Students Union of Egerton University, has been on the limelight in the recent past for his exemplary leadership skills that have landed him lucrative opportunities to dine with the who-is-who in various leadership forums in Kenya.
The 4th year BSc. Agricultural Economics student was nominated for the Kenya Universities Students Leaders Awards together with 74 others from universities in Kenya. They were shortlisted, interviewed and trained on grounds of project management, students’ welfare management and interpersonal skills with fall-outs in each stage. “I have always wanted to be a CEO whole my whole life. Going to the university has been the best opportunity for me.” Says David when reached. Out of the 74 students nominated for the awards, David is among the 8 who have qualified for finals awaiting awards at Nairobi’s Safari Park Hotel this weekend. “At Egerton University, leadership is such a blessing that broadens your career and fulfills your ambitions” he added.
Mr. Omondi has attended various leadership forums such as Africa Youth Leadership Forum at Manzoni- Machakos, Global Students Integrity Forum in Mombasa, Arusha and Maseno, Kenya National Prayers Breakfast in Nairobi and recently attended Kenya School of Government Conference in Nairobi.
Being the only student leader who has served in the same position for two consecutive terms, David has identified alcohol and drug abuse as the main deterrent to successful completion of university education among many students in Egerton University. He intends to launch periodic campaigns against these two vices in the university. The first edition is scheduled for 5th June 2019 and funded by TAGDev Project. He believes he will become an outstanding Kenyan citizen who cares and help people to make their lives better having leadership experience from Egerton University.
As a university, we wish David Omondi all the best in his ambitions of becoming a great leader of tomorrow. We advise other students’ leaders to emulate his style of leadership for the growth of our university.
